This is an original 1954 photo of Turn-to and Hank Moreno on the way to the post in the Flamingo Stakes at Hialeah.
Turn-to was bred in Ireland by Maj. E. R. Miville and Mrs. G. L. Hastings. He was imported into the United States by Claude Tanner who passed away shortly after this. Captain Harry F. Guggenheim purchased him for $20,000 from the 1952 Keeneland Yearling Sales.
Originally Turn-to had been named Source Royal, but Guggenheim changed the name to Turn-to which means “get to work” in Naval slang.
He was by Royal Charger, the winner of the 1945 Challenge Stakes, out of Source Sucree by Admiral Drake, the winner of the 1934 Grand Prix de Paris.

Turn-to made 8 starts with 6 wins 1 second 1 third earning: $280,032.
At two in 1953, he won: the Garden State Stakes over Correlation, the winner of the 1954 Florida Derby, and Goyamo, the winner of the 1954 Blue Grass Stakes; and the Saratoga Special Stakes, by disqualification of Porterhouse, over Permian, the winner of the 1953 Bowie Endurance Stakes, and Sir Boss.
Turn-to finished third in the Hopeful Stakes behind Artismo and War Piper, the winner of the 1957 Roseben Handicap.
At three in 1954, he won the Flamingo Stakes over Black Metal and Maharajah, the winner of the 1954 Everglades Stakes.
Turn-to was retired after he was found to have bowed a tendon.
He was the third Leading Sire in 1960 and was the 1958 Leading Juvenile Sire.
