Shastye set for return to Galileo this season
BY BLOODSTOCK WORLD STAFF

THE dam of the most expensive yearling colt ever sold in Europe and numerous Group 1 winners and producers feature among the illustrious mares owned by Newsells Park Stud in Hertfordshire who have had matings chosen for them this year.

Shastye, a 14-year-old daughter of Danehill who is the dam of Oaks runner-up Secret Gesture and 3,600,000gns yearling Sir Isaac Newton is, unsurprisingly, set to return to that pair’s sire Galileo.

The Aidan O’Brien-trained Sir Isaac Newton, whose price eclipsed that of Europe’s previous most expensive yearling colt River Dancer, was a promising second in a Leopardstown maiden in October and is around a 20-1 chance for the Derby.

Shastye will be accompanied on the trip to visit multiple champion sire Galileo at Coolmore by Blue Rhapsody, a ten-year-old daughter of Cape Cross who is the dam of last season’s Prix Eugene Adam winner Western Hymn, and Prix de l’Opera heroine Kinnaird, whose son Berkshire was the impressive winner of the Darley Stakes in October. The 14-year-old daughter of Dr Devious is in foal to Galileo’s exceptional son Frankel and is due to give birth next month.

Funsie, the dam of Derby hero Authorized and former 2,500,000gns Tattersalls Book 1 top lot Hydrogen, has been booked into Dansili. The 16-year-old daughter of Saumarez, bought by Newsells Park for €550,000 from the Paulyn dispersal at Goffs in 2013, was unfortunately barren to Camelot last year.

Another Goffs acquisition also heading to Dansili is Hazariya, a Listed-winning daughter of Xaar who is the dam of stakes winners Harasiya and Hazarafa. She topped the mares’ section of last year’s Goffs November Sale when bought by Newsells Park in foal to Fastnet Rock for €480,000.

Dansili’s Banstead Manor Stud colleague Oasis Dream is set to receive two proven producers from the stud in Waldmark, a Group 2-placed daughter of Mark Of Esteem who is the dam of St Leger hero Masked Marvel, and Green Swallow, a Group 3-winning daughter of Green Tune who has produced Prix de Malleret winner Yellow And Green.

Waldlerche, a Group 3-winning half-sister to Masked Marvel by Monsun, will visit Sea The Stars – a mating that will result in a foal bred on the same cross as runaway Deutsches Derby hero Sea The Moon.

Banstead Manor Stud newcomer Kingman has been appointed as this year’s cover for Flawly, a Group 3-placed daughter of Old Vic who is the dam of stakes winners Best Name, February Sun and Heirloom, and Yummy Mummy, a ten-year-old Montjeu sister to Fame And Glory whose daughter by Danehill Dancer, Legatissimo, was Listed-placed at two last year.

Darley flagbearer Dubawi will cover Giant’s Play, a Grade 2-winning daughter of Giant’s Causeway and Playful Act, and has been chosen as the first suitor for Purr Along, a Group 3-winning daughter of Mount Nelson campaigned by Newsells Park and Qatar Bloodstock after they joined forces to buy her for 1,000,000gns at Tattersalls in 2013.

Entente Cordiale, a 17-year-old daughter of Ela-Mana-Mou who is the dam of dual King’s Stand Stakes hero and promising Newsells Park sire Equiano, will visit Dark Angel, who is by Equiano’s sire Acclamation, while Specifically, a 21-year-old daughter of Sky Classic who is the dam of 1,000 Guineas heroine Speciosa and the Listed-winning Mount Nelson filly Special Meaning, is set for Cacique.

Date With Destiny, the only offspring produced by George Washington and whose first foal, a Galileo filly, sold as a yearling for 650,000gns last year, is set to be covered by Lope De Vega, while Fillies’ Mile runner-up Lady Darshaan, a daughter of High Chaparral, will visit Dutch Art.

Newsells Park will once again be lending its own exciting young sire Nathaniel with a strong book of mares, including Our Queen Of Kings, a daughter of Arazi who is the dam of Spinning Queen and whose Nathaniel filly foal sold for 300,000gns in December; Puce, a Listed-winning daughter of Darshaan who is the dam of high-class Lion Sands and Pongee; Mail The Desert, a Moyglare Stud Stakes winner by Desert Prince; Gino’s Spirits, a daughter of Perugino who is the dam of Gino’s Spirits; and Royal Empress, a Group 3-placed daughter of Holy Roman Emperor bought for $460,000 at Keeneland in November.

Newsells Park Stud general manager Julian Dollar said: “We knew Nathaniel’s first crop of foals last year were a nice bunch but we were still absolutely chuffed with how they went down at the sales – everyone said how nice they were and they returned an excellent average price.

“He has had good support and covered two big books by British standards, and looks set to cover 140 this year. He benefits from a spine of shareholders who have given him such great support.”

Nathaniel, a dual Group 1-winning son of Galileo and outstanding broodmare Magnificient Style, stands at Newsells Park at a fee of £20,000 alongside Equiano (£8,000) and Mount Nelson (£6,000).
